- DESIGNER - ARTIST - CREATIVE DIRECTION - ECCENTRIC APPROACHES TO UNIQUE PROBLEMS
When Matthew, a straight autistic man, tries to make new friends, he finds himself in the least overstimulating place possible: a gay bar. Spectrum is a new coming-of-age musical comedy that shows its audience what it takes to make a connection. The goal for this campaign is to incorporate key themes from the screenplay, as well as the setting and historical timing of the era, to create a unique brand for the play. Given the setting, I wanted to incorporate that campy, cheesy, 90s gay bar aesthetic into every aspect of the brand design: neon lights, disco balls, block letterforms, and far too much rainbow. The specific gradient spectrum derives from the Doppler effect on white light, a nod to the main character’s obsessions.
