TUBE!

Tasked with making a ‘personal product’, I returned to my old sketchbooks to peruse odd drawings and ramblings I had written years ago. I stumbled upon a drawing of a person whose head was replaced by an old CRT television. It was a representation of capitalism and media overconsumption, with the written mantra ‘you have become what you consume’. I decided to turn it into a kind of figure or toy, further emphasizing the capitalist metaphor. He’s now a toy you can buy, and buy more, and collect; think Funko-Pops. He grew from a vague idea into an entire toy and other media.
The packaging and type call back to the old VCR and TV combos from my childhood, playing further into the nostalgia side of the toy. My own obsession with saving these TVs (see the front page!) adds into this.I learned basics of 3D modeling and printing in order to make the little guy into a reality. It is a really valuabe skills that informs all of my current design ideas, and allows me to make even stranger little things like this guy.
